How the score is computed
We count words, sentences and syllables, then apply the Flesch reading ease formula. Higher scores mean easier reading; lower scores mean denser text.
Interpreting the score
Above 70 is plain English, 60 to 70 is standard, 50 to 60 is fairly difficult and below 50 is academic. Use this as a hint to shorten sentences or swap long words.
